Apple reportedly fires head of iOS 6 Maps team

Apple reportedly fires head of Maps team

Apple has reportedly fired the manager in charge of iOS 6 Maps, Richard Williamson. Williamson lead the mapping team that was responsible for the new, heavily criticized maps app that debuted in September. The dismissal of Williamson is one of Eddie Cue?s first major actions since being put in charge of maps in the management shakeup last month. Cue is said to be looking to TomTom to fix its landmark data as well as talking to mapping experts outside of Apple about how to be improve the experience. Apple has been hard at work fixing problems in Maps since the release of iOS 6. In a report from Bloomberg reports:

A team at Apple has been working to fix the mapping mistakes, focusing first on some of the most glaring problems, one person said. The satellite imagery over the U.K. has been improved and labels for popular U.S. landmarks such as the Washington Monument have been corrected.

A shakeup of this kind is not unexpected. When Scott Forstall was ousted last month, many speculated that it was due to the issues with Maps, but ultimately it was more to do with internal politics than one issue with one piece of software, as serious as those issues were. As the leader of the Maps team, Williamson was responsible for making sure Maps was done on time. Yes, Maps is a 1.0 product, but there is a minimum level of quality that a product this important has to have before it?s released to the public, and Maps wasn?t there for a lot of people. The mapping team needs to be able to make improvements to Maps rapidly in order to turn it into the product that it should be, and if Williamson wasn?t the right person to lead this team, then Eddie Cue needed to let him go and find someone that he could count on to get the job done.

Exercise Basics: 5 Ways to Squeeze Exercise into a Busy Schedule

The Following is a guest post and does not necessarily reflect the views of exercisebasics.

Has it come down to choosing between squeezing a plump body into an outfit you?ve outgrown or trying to figure out how to squeeze in exercise? Both situations are stressful but, let?s face facts; carrying excess weight on your body isn?t good for your health. Our bodies were made to move, and without at least 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per week, the extra weight will slowly pile on. On top of that, every fitness and health professional keeps asserting that strength training is important for bone density and good health. Whittle your middle, tone your muscles and drop excess flab by following these five tips for squeezing exercise into a busy schedule.

Tone Muscles While Watching TV. Relaxing in front of the television after a long day at work can be a nice way to wind down. Invest the first 15 minutes of your television time in toning your muscles while you watch TV to accomplish your strength training. You only need to perform strength training moves three times per week, for 15 minutes each time to achieve results. Use dumbbells or kettlebells as you do squats, lunges, dumbbell rows, bicep curls and shoulder presses.

Ten-Minute Spurts. Health and fitness professionals recommend 150 minutes of aerobic exercise each week. When a hectic schedule precludes 30 minutes of uninterrupted exercise, go for 10-minute spurts instead. Take a brisk walk, go up and down the stairs or jog in place for three 10-minute segments spread throughout the day. If you do this five days a week, you?ll be able to squeeze in your cardio.

Waiting-in-Line Isometrics. Does it seem like you spend an inordinate amount of time standing in line? Use that time wisely to tighten and tone your muscles as you wait for your turn. Choose one area of muscle to focus on at a time, such as your calf muscles. Squeeze or contract the muscles, and hold the contraction for 30 to 60 seconds. Move on to other muscles, as time allows. Isometrics can be done anywhere at any time, even while sitting at your desk.

Take the Long Way.?You?ve probably heard it before?park at the far end of the parking lot or walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator. The extra movement adds up in calories burned and will contribute toward faster weight loss.

Wake Up with Yoga. Stretching keeps your muscles long and lean, loosens your joint and helps relax your body. Even five to 10 minutes of yoga in the morning can help improve your range of motion and flexibility.

An all-or-nothing approach to exercise sets you up for fitness burnout or definite weight gain. Similar to many other healthy lifestyle changes, incorporating exercise into your life doesn?t have to occur on a rigid schedule or be strenuous in order to be effective. The small bits of effort you put forth throughout the day add up to calories burned, fat lost and muscle being toned.

If it?s been a while since you last exercised, start out by incorporating one of the five tips listed here to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Do as much as you can and then stop, but when the exercises you?re doing start to feel easier, perform them longer or add more weight. It took time to gain weight and lose muscle tone, and it will take time to shed the fat and sculpt your muscles. Don?t let a busy schedule stand between you and your health and fitness. Squeezing in exercise throughout the day can add up to create an effective fitness plan that helps you meet your goals.

Garber says talks for NYC stadium at 'finish line'

By RONALD BLUM

updated 5:12 p.m. ET Nov. 26, 2012

NEW YORK (AP) - Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber says the league is at "the finish line" in negotiations with New York City to acquire land to build a stadium in Queens that would become home for the league's 20th team.

Garber says after that deal is agreed to, there would have to be negotiations with the city and state as part of the approval process to build on the 10-acre site in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The parkland used for the stadium would have to be replaced, and a deal would have to be reached with the New York Mets to use their parking lots adjacent to Citi Field.

Garber says the new team could start play for the 2016 season. He also says the New York market is the only one David Beckham doesn't have the right to buy into and the New York Red Bulls, who play in Harrison, N.J., don't have the right to block a second team in the New York area.

Eight policemen wounded in Russian prison protest

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Eight Russian policemen were injured trying to disperse a crowd outside a prison where 250 inmates staged a roof-top protest demanding the release of a group of fellow prisoners from a punishment cell, authorities said on Sunday.

Russian state television showed pictures of a group of inmates standing on the roof of the prison holding white banners reading "people, help" in the town of Kopeysk near the industrial city of Chelyabinsk in the Urals mountains.

Details of the incident remain unclear with human rights activist Oksana Trufanova telling the Echo Moskvy station that OMON special police troops attacked a group of inmates' relatives outside the prison.

"They beat us with batons. Their eyes were shining. I had never been in such mayhem," Trufanova said. Police said 38 people were detained, but denied OMON officers had beaten people outside the prison.

Trufanova said the protest was a consequence of regular beatings in Kopeysk prison. The local prison authority said in a statement the situation inside the prison was now stable and under control.

Police said the troops were attacked by groups of drunken youths who were throwing bottles and shouting obscenities. Prison mutinies in Russia are relatively rare.

More than 700,000 Russians are currently behind bars and human rights activists regularly complain of poor living conditions, cases of torture, beatings and disease in prisons.

Conditions in Russian prisons came to international attention after Sergei Magnitsky, a lawyer for equity fund Hermitage Capital died a Moscow prison. The Kremlin's own human rights council says he was probably beaten to death.

The local prison authority said the protesters had no demands other than the release of a group of their fellow inmates from a punishment cell. It said the group had violated prison rules and the demand to release them was illegal.

While his mother had been Winston Churchill?s private secretary, business is also in the blood: He is the son of a businessman who traded in whiskey during America?s prohibition years and later worked for a company that survived the ban by selling communion wine.

Born in London in 1956, Justin Portal Welby studied law and history at Trinity College, in Cambridge, England, after the initial schooling that made him an "Old Etonian."

A career in the oil industry beckoned and he spent 11 years in the sector as a senior executive, based in Paris and London. He worked on projects in the North Sea and the Niger Delta, gaining a familiarity that would come in useful in later years as a cleric traveling to the West African reaches of the Anglican Communion, Nigeria.

In 1983, his seven-month-old, first-born daughter was killed in a car crash, leading to "a very dark time" for him and his wife. But it also "bought us closer to God," he has said.

He left behind his career in business in 1987 to train an Anglican priest, later telling business magazine Money Marketing "I was unable to get away from a sense of God calling."

He became a deacon in 1992 after taking a degree in theology, serving later as a curate in the Coventry diocese and was made a rector in 1995 before being made a canon at Coventry Cathedral in 2002.

At Coventry, he was involved in international conflict resolution before becoming dean of Liverpool in 2007. He was elevated to the fourth most senior post in the Church of England in November 2011, when he became the bishop of Durham.

Irish editor resigns following criticism over Princess Kate pics

The Sept. 15, 2012 edition of the Irish Daily Star had topless pictures of Britain's Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

By Isolde Raftery, NBC News

The editor of the Irish Daily Star has resigned following an internal investigation into his tabloid?s decision to publish topless photos of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, while she was sunbathing in the south of France, the Irish Times reported.

Michael O?Kane, the editor, was suspended in September after investors of Independent Star Limited, the paper?s parent company, demanded O?Kane be removed from his position. Richard Desmond, whose Northern and Shell company co-owns the paper, demanded that the paper be shut down, according to the Times.

Following O?Kane?s resignation Saturday, the editors at the Irish Daily Star expressed a different view of the situation, according to itv.com: ?Mr. O?Kane acted at all times in a highly professional and appropriate manner and in the best interests of the newspaper,? they said in a statement.

The blurry, long-lens photos of the princess and her husband, William, were originally published in Closer, a French magazine. At the time, a statement from St. James? Palace in London said the couple was ?hugely saddened? by the publication. The royals contended they had ?every right to privacy in the remote house? where they were sunbathing.

The statement from St. James? Palace even drew a comparison to Princess Diana, William's mother and the Princess of Wales: ?The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to The Duke and Duchess for being so.?

The images were not published in Britain, nor were they published in the Northern Ireland editions of the Irish Daily Star. Northern Ireland remains under British rule.

Both co-owners of the Irish Daily Star had criticized O?Kane?s decision to publish the photos but the Independent News and Media, which has holdings in Ireland, Northern Ireland and South Africa, ultimately decided that shutting down the paper would be unnecessarily extreme, according to the BBC.

An insight into computer forensics ? hot news

If you are wondering about the definition of Computer forensics- This process includes utilization of the latest computer sciences technology to collect, analyze and find out evidence during an investigation of a criminal case. Digital forensic science also deals with collecting legal evidences through the use of digital devices. This science helps in gathering evidence as well as recovering data. The evidence can be found on a whole variety of devices- mobile electronics like your phone or camera, or entire files on the computer hard disks, etc.

Digital Computer Forensics experts are essential to criminal cases involving security breaches, identity theft, etc. Today with an increase in the number of cyber crime rates, it has become necessary for network administrator and security staff of networked organizations to hire computer forensics experts. Additionally, they should have a thorough knowledge about laws.

The Computer Forensics Investigator should be certified to handle investigations related to cyber crimes. These professionals have the required knowledge on how to recover data from computers to present evidence in the court of law. Many investigators are either police officers or are hired by the police departments. Many Forensics Investigators also work with private investigators. The court of law may ask these professionals to explain their role in evidence gathering and narrate in detail the entire investigation procedure adopted by them. This is why their credentials are of the utmost importance.

In the case of hard drives on a computer being erased, these investigators are proficient enough to retrieve the lost data with the help of specialized computer recovery programs. The computer forensics investigator can get back lost pictures, spreadsheets, text messages or huge databases saved on a crashed hard disk. The investigator can decode an encrypted program and extract data from it.

Why does anyone need the Computer Forensic Services? These forensic services have become a necessity to keep a check on the rising cyber crime rates all across the globe. The services includes gathering evidences for a court procedure, consultation and prevention strategy, monitoring and collecting data from cell phones and mobile devices, knowing origin of web account creation, password recovery, electronic fraud detection, retrieving and analyzing text messages, photo, videos and images, employee misuse, online and computer shopping, private infringement, chain of custody and corporate sabotage.

Handling any sub-judicial issue on your own can increase the chances of losing evidence on your computer as well as losing a case. Hence, it is better to go for a computer forensic expert. While selecting one you should ensure the professionals do have proper certifications, licenses as well as required experiences. Undoubtedly, this will help you out solve any criminal case in a better way. These professionals ensure that the Digital Forensics job is done thoroughly while investigating a case, which will definitely increase the chances of your winning a case in the court of law. If you are searching for a certified, licensed and experienced computer forensic investigator, then look no further other than the Expert Data Forensics.

Health Fitness Specialist Student Has 75 Reasons To Stay Motivated

Theresea Salzwedel,Health Fitness Specialist,LA Fitness,Mount Vernon Baptist Church,Zumba,New Brighton,Blaine,Fridley,Wayzata,New Brighton Parks and Recreation,Downtown Minneapolis YWCA, Biking, Walking

Theresa Salzwedel takes time out from supervising the MSB-Plymouth Fitness Lab to pose.

Health fitness specialist student Theresa Salzwedel is going above and beyond to earn her degree.

How long is your weekly commute? Twenty-five, 50, maybe even 100 miles?

Ever consider walking or biking it?

That?s precisely what health fitness specialist student Theresa Salzwedel does every week to the estimated tune of 75 miles.

?I have a passion for life, a passion for health and fitness and a passion to get up every day and keep moving,? Salzwedel said.

After learning more about her, nobody can doubt that.

Salzwedel started her daily treks in 2001 after her divorce. Her fitness career started in 2004 at the Downtown Minneapolis YWCA where she assumed roles as head lifeguard, assistant aquatic coordinator, and fitness instructor specializing in the Silver Sneakers program.

?I lived in New Brighton at that time,? Salzwedel said. ?No buses ran there that early in the morning, so I had to walk from my apartment to the bus stop in St. Anthony Village.?

For those keeping track, that?s 3.1 miles.

?I had to walk there at 3:30 or 4 a.m. because I had to be there to open the building by 5:30. Buses stopped at 6:30 p.m., so I had to make it to the stop by that time if I didn?t want to walk again.?

In 2008, she took a second job teaching an aquatics class with the New Brighton Parks and Recreation before landing at LA Fitness in New Brighton. She now works at the Blaine and New Brighton locations, teaching any and all fitness classes assigned to her. She often walks or bikes from her Fridley apartment to both locations.

That?s round trips of nearly five (New Brighton) and 12 miles (Blaine).

?I walk most of the time; it keeps me calm,? Salzwedel said.

After budget cuts at the YWCA left her jobless, she decided to pursue her passion for fitness by enrolling at the Minnesota School of Business-Plymouth Campus (MSB). She buses from Fridley, stops in downtown Minneapolis and reaches a Wayzata bus stop, which is a two-mile walk or ride from MSB.

?I just like the people here [at MSB]? said Salzwedel. ?They really care about me. If people see me walking [from the bus stop to school] they always check on me when I get here. I have good people on my side at the school.?

She has also given back using her health experience by starting a faith and fitness ministry program at Greater Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Minneapolis, where she works alongside fellow MSB graduate Bill Jernigan.

?I usually work with the women three times per week,? said Salzwedel. On top of that, she implemented a gospel zumba class as well.

Her goals after graduation include opening a nonprofit designed to help low-income families make healthy life decisions together as a unit.

?It all starts at home,? Salzwedel said. ?If those families can be healthy together, they?re more likely to stick together.?

If there?s one thing that families and communities can learn from her, it?s sticking to a plan.

stoic rial: Malicious Ways that Spam Can Ruin Your Business ...

Spam can come in many forms, including ?special? toolbars and comment spam designed to post comments on your site that are false and sometimes embarrassing.? In a recent post from Google, we?re told that Google will penalize our sites if too much spam is tracked to the site.? This could be disastrous for your business and frustrating for you.?

Here are two ways that unchecked spam can hurt and possibly ruin your sites:

  • Rankings.? Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the main way that most marketers build their sites for quality traffic and great rankings.? But spamming techniques can ruin your good rankings by luring visitors to your site(s) by droves in an unethical manner.

Malicious Ways that Spam Can Ruin Your BusinessSpamming techniques such as invisible text, stuffing unrelated keywords into your content, and duplicate content can alert search engines that you?re contriving to get traffic in an unethical manner, and they will ?red flag? those sites and penalize the site owners.

  • Credibility.? It?s so easy to lose your online credibility with spamming techniques.? Blogs are especially susceptible to these methods because visitors and participators in the blog don?t want to be inundated with useless content and multiple backlinks that have nothing to do with the purpose of the blog.

These spammers can use the legitimate backlinks on your blog to sell to other ?black hat? Internet Markets, causing your blog followers to fall by the wayside like flies.

Your reputation and ethics are so important to anything you do online while building your site(s).? Keep appraised of spammers who are out for a quick buck and who can ruin interest in your online efforts.

Web Spam Vs. Email Spam

You should know that there?s a difference between web spam and email spam.? The simplest explanation is that email spam is out for you to purchase a product, and web spammers (comments and/or blog posts) want your visitors to purchase their products.? You?re not the target ? but your clients are ? and that can drive them off of your site or blog in droves.

Malicious Ways that Spam Can Ruin Your BusinessThere is a service that you can turn to that will automatically delete comment and blog spam so that you don?t have to worry about it anymore.? The service is called Akismet, and you can access it through plugins such as WordPress or the Akismet API.? All you have to do is register and API key (like a password) which is your own private access to your account.

Then, each time a comment, pingback or trackback?appears on your site, the Akismet service tests it and either Okays it or turns it down.? You don?t have to do a thing ? and, you can be assured that the spam designed to ruin your site and steal sales and customers from you is taken care of.? Click Here to Tweet this Post.

When you use a plugin such as Akismet to stop spam from invading your site, you?ll keep Google and other search engines from penalizing your sites and from losing credibility with your followers.

Malicious Ways that Spam Can Ruin Your BusinessI?ve spoken about ?black hat techniques? before, and web spamming is definitely one of the worst.? They?re hoping you?ll disregard them because these spam techniques use flattery, praise and other positive comments to catch you off guard.

There?s no way for you to know if these comments and posts are legitimate.? That?s why it?s a good thing to use a plug in like Akismet to check it out for you.? Just be sure you?re protected from these spammers who are thieves and who can run your business off the Internet.?
