(AP) ? Pope Francis delivered a plea for peace in his first Easter Sunday message to the world, decrying the seemingly endless conflicts in the Middle East and on the Korean peninsula after celebrating Mass at an outdoor altar before more than 250,000 people in flower-bedecked St. Peter's Square.

Francis shared in his flock's exuberance as they celebrated Christianity's core belief that Jesus Christ rose from the dead following crucifixion. After Mass, he stepped aboard an open-topped white popemobile for a cheerful spin through the joyous crowd, kissing babies and patting children on the head.

One admirer of both the pope and of the pope's favorite soccer team, Argentina's Saints of San Lorenzo, insisted that Francis take a team jersey he was waving at the pontiff. A delighted Francis obliged, briefly holding up the shirt, and the crowd roared in approval.

Francis has repeatedly put concern for the poor and suffering at the center of his messages, and he pursued his promotion of the causes of peace and social justice in the Easter speech he delivered from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, the same vantage point above the square where he was introduced to the world as the first Latin American pope on March 13.

The Roman Catholic leader aimed his Easter greetings at "every house and every family, especially where the suffering is greatest, in hospitals, in prisons." Francis prayed that Jesus would inspire people to "change hatred into love, vengeance into forgiveness, war into peace."

As popes before him have, he urged Israelis and Palestinians to resume peace talks and end a conflict that "has lasted all too long." And, in reflecting on the two-year-old Syrian crisis, Francis asked, "How much suffering must there still be before a political solution" can be found?

The pope also expressed desire for a "spirit of reconciliation" on the Korean peninsula, where North Korea says it has entered "a state of war" with South Korea. He also decried warfare and terrorism in Africa, as well as what he called the 21st century's most extensive form of slavery: human trafficking.

The first pontiff to come from the Jesuits, an order with special concern for the poor, and the first pope to name himself after St. Francis, a medieval figure who renounced wealth to preach to the down-and-out, Francis lamented that the world is "still divided by greed looking for easy gain."

Earlier, wearing cream-colored vestments, Francis celebrated Mass on the esplanade in front of the basilica at an altar set up under a white canopy. He frequently bowed his head as if in silent reflection.

The sun competed with clouds in the sky Sunday, but the square was a riot of floral color in Rome, where chilly winter has postponed the blossoming of many flowers. Yellow forsythia and white lilies shone, along with bursts of lavender and pink, from potted azalea, rhododendron, wisteria and other plants.

Francis thanked florists from the Netherlands for donating the flowers. He also advised people to let love transform their lives, or as he put it, "let those desert places in our hearts bloom."

The Vatican had prepared a list of brief Easter greetings in 65 languages, but Francis didn't read them. The Vatican didn't say why not, but has said that the new pope, at least for now, feels at ease using Italian, the everyday language of the Holy See. Francis also has stressed his role as a pastor to his flock, and, as Bishop of Rome, Italian would be his language.

The pontiff improvised his parting words to the crowd. He repeated his Easter greeting to those "who have come from all over the world to this square at the heart of Christianity" as well as to those "linked by modern technology," a reference to TV and radio coverage as well as social media.

Francis added that he was especially remembering "the weakest and the neediest" and praying that all of humanity be guided along "the paths of justice, love and peace."

In another departure from Easter tradition, Francis won't be heading for some post-holiday relaxation at the Vatican's summer palace in Castel Gandolfo, in the hills southeast of Rome. That retreat is already occupied by his predecessor, Benedict XVI, who went there in the last hours of his papacy on Feb. 28. Benedict became the first pope in 600 years to resign from the position, and eventually is to move back to the Vatican, after a convent there is readied for him.

Francis so far has declined to move into Benedict's former apartment in the Apostolic Palace, into the rooms whose studio overlooks St. Peter's Square. He is still in the Vatican hotel where earlier this month he was staying along with other cardinals participating in the secret conclave to choose Benedict's successor.

While Francis has just begun to make his mark on the church, it is plain he has little desire to embrace much of the pomp customarily associated with the office.

Italy politics still stuck as Bersani to face president

By James Mackenzie

ROME (Reuters) - Italian center-left leader Pier Luigi Bersani was left on Wednesday with only slim hope of forming a government after talks with rival party leaders ended with rejection from Beppe Grillo's 5-Star Movement.

Bersani said he would report back to President Giorgio Napolitano on Thursday and called on all parties to "accept their responsibilities" and allow a government to be formed.

A February election resulted in deadlock and without an agreement between the parties Italy might have to head back to the polls, adding to the uncertainty in the euro zone as it battles to contain the crisis in Cyprus.

But there was little sign of movement from the other parties, with Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PDL), saying Bersani had maneuvered himself into a "blind alley" by continuing to seek support from the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement.

"The question is closed, and it is Bersani who has closed it and now finds himself in a blind alley," said PDL national secretary Angelino Alfano.

"It's up to him to turn the situation around, if he wants to, in the interests of the country."

In last month's election, Bersani's alliance won a majority in the lower house of parliament but not in the Senate, leaving it unable to govern on its own.

He has ruled out joining forces with Berlusconi's center-right alliance, the second largest force in parliament, which says a coalition of the two main political forces is the only way to give Italy a government.

The rebuff by 5-Star was expected as the group has always said it will not back the parties it blames for Italy's social and economic crisis.

NO CREDIBILITY

"There are no conditions that would allow us to give a confidence vote to a government made up of these parties because they have no credibility," 5-Star's Senate leader Vito Crimi said after meeting Bersani.

Adding insult to injury, 5-Star's founder, the fiery ex-comic Grillo, posted an entry on his blog calling mainstream politicians including Berlusconi and Bersani "old whoremongers ... who gaily take the piss every day with their daily appeals for governability".

Bersani had hoped to gain support from 5-Star for a limited platform of institutional and economic reforms and he said Grillo's party would have to justify its refusal to support a government in parliament. However Grillo's comments appear to have ended any prospect of an accord.

Some parliamentarians still held out hopes of some form of deal with the center-right that would allow the election of a new president acceptable to Berlusconi's bloc to succeed Napolitano, whose term ends in May.

Bersani played down talk of any such deal.

"It hasn't been put to me in those terms. You can't speculate about any deal over the government and the office of president of the Republic," he said.

The main marker of investor confidence, the spread between Italian 10-year bonds and their safer German counterparts, has widened this week.

"Risks for Italian debt remain very high in the coming weeks," said Annalisa Piazza, a market economist with Newedge in London.

"Although Bersani's consultations with other political leaders might lead to a grand-coalition government, markets are aware that such a government will not last long," she said.

If he cannot reach an agreement, Napolitano may appoint a respected outsider to try to form a technocrat government or a broad cross-party coalition. If that fails, Italy faces the prospect of a return to the polls, possibly within months.

Murdoch's The Sun tabloid to charge for online access

LONDON (Reuters) - Rupert Murdoch's British tabloid The Sun will start charging for access to its website in a package with highlights of Premier League soccer matches, publisher News International (NI) said on Wednesday.

"Later this year the pay model will be applied to The Sun across every platform," said a spokesman for NI, the British newspaper arm of News Corp.

"We will be offering our valued Sun readers a bigger and better experience than they have ever had before - one that in addition to FA Premier League clips will offer a full and attractive subscription model across digital and print."

The Sun, the country's top-selling newspaper with a print circulation of 2.28 million in February according to ABC, is the only one of Murdoch's British titles to have content freely available online, although it does have a paid-for app.

The Times and The Sunday Times have been behind a paywall since 2010.

Newspaper groups are looking at ways to drive revenue from online publishing to help counter falling print circulations and tough advertising markets.

The Daily Telegraph, the country's top-selling daily broadsheet title, said on Tuesday it would start charging for its Internet edition using a metered model, which gives readers a numbers of articles for free.

The Sun, however, will be the first popular tabloid to charge for online access, and NI is hoping that offering soccer clips will encourage subscriptions.

Chief Executive Mike Darcey told reporters on Tuesday evening that charging for The Sun online would "iron out any inconsistencies" across the group's titles.

"And those sorts of Premier League rights can really start to kick start that transition," he said at an event at NI's London office.

NI bought the rights to show online clips of action from English Premier League soccer games from the 2013-2014 season in January.

Darcey did not specify pricing or a date for the change, beyond saying it would happen in the second half of the year, coinciding with the start of the soccer season in August.

Engaging Specialty Practices in the Patient Centered Medical ...

Building on last week?s post regarding embracing change for healthcare transofrmation, it was intriguing to learn about the NCQA?s new patient centered medical home program for specialty practices. Kicking off March 25th, the Patient Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) recognition highlights specialty practices committed to access, communication and care coordination as ?neighbors? that surround and inform the medical home and colleagues in primary care, according to NCQA.? And I regret to say that I missed the informational webinar, including an NCQA advisor and guest speaker from one of the local healthcare systems.

Had I attended the webinar, I would have been better prepared to query the CEO of a hospital within the same healthcare system at a recent American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) function.? Interestingly, we had a lengthy conversation regarding the system?s desire to exchange data within the area; however, the CEO noted that current system architecture made it challenging enough to simply share information amongst health system participants.? With one of the key tenets for the PCSP recognition being timely exchange of data, this is a bit of a conundrum.? While the Direct project offers a simple solution, the ultimate goal will be to facilitate and encourage physicians to search for records in efforts to keep all parties abreast of the care plan.? And while this is a tremendous step, we also noted that retail & urgent care clinics, solo primary care practices and free-standing care centers need to get in on the game too.

I also see a need for ancillary providers to be included as well. ?Not only would individuals benefit from the opportunity to view x-rays but, more to the point, visualizations,?similar to the one here.? While Physical Therapists do an excellent job engaging patients in discussion, they would have far greater impact with the ability to illustrate their points on an interactive tablet app.? And thinking out loud, wouldn?t it be great for individuals to be able to reference the same app at home ? to review the information and implement ?their? steps in the care plan?

?

Depressed Kids And Heart Disease | Your Health Journal

friendFrom Your Health Journal?..?A very good article I had to promote here from Everyday Health written by Jaimie Dalessio entitled Depressed Kids Risk Heart Disease Later. Young children who are depressed are more likely to experience heart problems later in life, even after the struggle with depression has ended. Depression on its own is a known risk factor for heart disease ? as well as stress, so it is important to teach children 1) how to manage it?.and 2) teach parents the warning signs to look for. If a depressed child or teen leads a sedentary lifestyle, obese, smokes or has poor eating habits, risks are obviously greater. The findings from this study in this article suggest that the consequences of childhood depression reach beyond the emotional realm and can lead to long-term physical health problems. I encourage you all to visit the Everyday Health web site to read the complete article, as well as read many of their other amazing stories. I have provided a short snip below, but also a link to the main story.?

From the article?..

Children who are depressed are more likely than their peers to exhibit heart disease risk factors ? like obesity and smoking ? as teens.

Depression during childhood makes it more likely that a person will experience heart problems later in life, even after the struggle with depression has ended, according to a new study from researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and the University of Pittsburgh.

While depression on its own is a known risk factor for heart disease, this study specifically focused on whether risk factors for heart problems, such as smoking, obesity and sedentary habits, are more prevalent among teens who were depressed as children.

Participants in the study had been part of a study on childhood depression, which began in Hungary in 2004. In 2011, the authors of this new study took a look at the group as adolescents. They compared 210 kids with a history of major depression with 195 siblings and 161 unrelated controls without any history of depression.

At the time of the 2011 evaluation, 86 percent of the participants who had depression were in partial or full remission.

The researchers found that major depression with onset during childhood was associated with a higher prevalence of obesity, smoking and a sedentary lifestyle compared to the prevalence in non-depressed siblings and the unrelated, non-depressed members of the control group. Of the kids who were depressed in childhood (average onset at age 9), 22 percent were obese at age 16, according to the findings, and one-third smoked cigarettes daily. In the United States, 12.7 million children between the ages 2 and 19 are obese, according to statistics from the American Heart Association.

While non-depressed siblings showed a slightly higher prevalence of heart disease risk factors compared to the unrelated control group (suggesting family influences on heart disease), the connection between depression and such risk factors was ?over and above that associated with family,? wrote study author Robert M. Carney, PhD, a professor of psychiatry at Washington University, in his report on the findings, which he is presenting today at the annual meeting of the American Psychosomatic Society in Miami, Fla.

West Virginia Lawmaker Seeks To Ban Drivers From Wearing Head Mounted Displays Like Google Glass

puppy-glasses-(1)I don't see any problem with this. In short, a West Virginia lawmaker wants to make wearing head mounted displays while driving against the law in his state. The devices would join other banned electronic communication devices like cell phones. The bill, while perhaps a bit laughable at first, is logical and smart. It makes a lot more sense than banning the use of Google Glass in dive bars.

Abou Zeid confirmed dead: France got Al Qaeda leader

Abou Zeid confirmed dead: France now says DNA tests confirmed that Abou Zeid, one of al Qaeda's most feared commanders in Africa, was the identity of the man killed by a French-led offensive in Mali.

France confirmed "with certainty" on Saturday that Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, one of al Qaeda's most feared commanders in Africa, had been killed in Mali last month in a French-led offensive.

The death of Abou Zeid, who raised millions of dollars kidnapping Western hostages, marks a heavy blow to al Qaeda's North African wing AQIM and to Islamist rebels battling French-led forces in northern Mali's Adrar des Ifoghas mountains.

The death of the ruthless commander - the trusted lieutenant of AQIM's elusive leader Abdelmalek Droukdel - was a major victory in France's nine-week-old campaign to drive al Qaeda-linked Islamists from Mali's desert north.

It raises questions, however, about the fate of several French hostages believed to be held by Abou Zeid's branch of AQIM.

"The president of the French Republic confirms with certainty the death of Abdelhamid Abou Zeid after an offensive by the French army in the Adrar des Ifoghas," the Elysee presidential palace said.

Previously France had said only that Abou Zeid was "probably" dead. Chad, whose troops are fighting alongside French forces in the Adrar des Ifoghas, announced in early March that the Algerian smuggler-turned-Islamist had been killed.

France had been awaiting the results of DNA testing - which finally confirmed Zeid's identity - before making an official announcement, a diplomatic source told Reuters.

French forces launched a ground and air campaign in Mali on Jan. 11, warning that the Islamist enclave in northern Mali controlled by AQIM and its allies presented a threat to international security.

The Islamists had hijacked a Tuareg rebellion which had driven Mali's demoralised army from the northern two-thirds of the landlocked country in April last year.

While the French-led offensive has pushed Islamists out of northern towns and remote mountain bases, militants have hit back with several suicide bombings in government-held areas.

A spokesman for AQIM said earlier this week it had beheaded a French hostage in retaliation for Paris' intervention, Mauritania's ANI news agency reported - a worrying development for France and its 14 hostages held in West Africa.

Abou Zeid is believed to have killed British hostage Edwin Dyer in 2009 and 78-year-old Frenchman Michel Germaneau in 2010.
Confirmation of his death will turn attention to the fate of fellow al Qaeda commander Mokhtar Belmokhtar, who was also reported dead by Chad.

Saturday's statement made no mention of Belmokhtar, the mastermind of a mass hostage-taking in January at the In Amenas gas plant in the Algerian desert in which around 60 people were killed.

Edouard Guillaud, the head of France's joint chiefs of staff, said this month he was "extremely cautious" about reports of Belmokhtar's death, noting that some militant websites had said the al Qaeda commander, nicknamed 'the uncatchable', was still at large.

UBS in settlement talks with SEC over mortgage bond deal: WSJ

(Reuters) - UBS AG is in talks with the Securities and Exchange Commission to settle allegations the bank defrauded investors in a mortgage bond deal that soured during the financial crisis, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The SEC's investigation focuses on allegations UBS defrauded investors in the sale of more than $748 million in notes tied to a collateralized debt obligation the bank created in 2007, the paper reported.

UBS disclosed in a regulatory filing this month that it is in discussions with the SEC concerning the structuring and underwriting of one CDO in 2007, the paper said.

Packaging collateralized debt obligations was very profitable at the height of the housing market boom, but the practice was later blamed by regulators for contributing to the credit market crisis.

The SEC is also looking at the role played by a former executive at bond insurer ACA Financial Guaranty Corp, which served as collateral manager on the deal, the paper said.

Robin Alperstein, an attorney for the former ACA executive, Laura Schwartz, was quoted as saying Schwartz denies any wrongful conduct and is cooperating with the investigation.

An ACA spokesman declined to comment to the paper.

Recommendations are expected to change the practice of genomic medicine

Boston In a highly anticipated report, landmark recommendations on the handling of incidental findings in clinical genome and exome sequencing are being issued from the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG). A report of the recommendations, led by Robert C. Green, MD, MPH, a medical geneticist at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), outlines for the first time a minimum list of genetic conditions, genes and variants that laboratories performing clinical sequencing should seek and report to the physicians that ordered the testing -- regardless of the original reasons for which the test was ordered.

"If, as expected, these recommendations are adopted by laboratories and clinicians, they will have important implications," said Green, who also co-chaired the ACMG Working Group that developed the recommendations. "As clinical sequencing becomes more widespread, laboratories are looking for guidance on how and what should be communicated to clinicians when results are analyzed. These recommendations will allow a small percentage of families to learn unexpected but potentially life-saving information about an illness they may have never suspected they were at risk for."

The recommendations are the result of a year-long process which included review by outside experts and approval by the ACMG Board of Directors. Leslie Biesecker, MD, chief and senior investigator of the Genetic Diseases Research Branch at the National Human Genome Research Institute co-chaired the working group with Dr. Green.

"Incidental findings" are health-related interpretations of a patient's genetic code that are unrelated to the primary reason for ordering the genetic testing. For example, if a clinician orders exome or genome sequencing to analyze genes related to a patient's cardiac condition, the laboratory will already have information about all the other genes in hand and could examine genes for something like cancer predisposition with relative ease. Should a known or suspected mutation be found in a cancer predisposition gene, the laboratory would report this incidental findings back to the ordering clinician, and the clinician and patient could take steps to screen for cancer. However, in the absence of accepted guidelines about which variants to search for and which results to return to the clinician, laboratories have been uncertain whether to search for or report results beyond those that the doctor ordered.

"We are at an early stage in the implementation of genomic medicine, and this is a difficult topic to manage because there is not yet much scientific evidence to support whether returning incidental findings can provide medical benefit," said Dr. Green. "Based upon existing evidence and clinical judgment, our Working Group of medical geneticists, genetic counselors, ethicists and molecular laboratorians reached consensus that a small number of conditions, genes and variants were likely to have a positive impact on the health of patients and their families if incidentally identified and reported."

In assembling this list, the Working Group prioritized the disclosure of disorders where:

  • Preventative measures and treatments exist
  • Patients might not experience symptoms for a long period of time
  • The genetic mutations are well recognized and known to have a strong link of causation

Examples of diseases recommended for disclosure include rare hereditary cancers and rare heart diseases that could result in sudden cardiac death. The full recommendations are available on the ACMG's website.

Because clinical sequencing is an entirely new technology, the recommendations include several provisions that deviate from established practices in medical genetics. For example, the Working Group did not recommend giving patients a choice of whether or not their physician would receive positive results from the list of recommended incidental findings. The Working Group also recommended that adult-onset conditions on the list be reported even when the patient is a minor. Dr. Green acknowledged that these recommendations diverge from current practices in medical genetics, explaining, "Sequencing offers a brand new way of looking at genetic testing. The Working Group believes that when we can detect findings that could provide clues to a dangerous condition for which a medical intervention may be possible, laboratories and clinicians have a responsibility to alert the patient's physician, as is done in the rest of medical practice."

The report makes it clear that the recommendations are a starting point that will and should be updated regularly as scientific evidence accrues about genetic conditions. The ACMG will establish an ongoing process for updating the recommendations.

Nadal and Sharapova win Indian Wells titles

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) ? Rafael Nadal watched Juan Martin del Potro's last shot sail wide on his fourth match point and collapsed flat on his back. He wasn't down for long, bouncing back up to celebrate his third title in four tournaments since coming back from a knee injury.

Nadal rallied from a set and 1-3 down in the second to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the BNP Paribas Open final on Sunday, capping an amazing 1?-month run since his seven-month layoff ended in February.

"Seriously, it's impossible to have better comeback, no?" he said, smiling. "Happy for everything."

Nadal improved to a career-best 17-1 on the year, including 14 straight match wins. He's won three titles ? two on clay while runner-up in another on his favorite surface ? and now his first on hard courts since Tokyo in October 2010. He had lost six previous finals on the surface.

"That's makes emotional week for me," he said. "Very important victory for me, winning against the best players of the world on a surface that is good for them."

Maria Sharapova defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 6-2 to win her first title of the year in the women's final between two former top-ranked players.

Nadal won his 600th career match and will move to No. 4 in the rankings released Monday. He broke a tie with Roger Federer with his record 22nd career ATP Tour Masters 1000 title while earning $1 million for his third Indian Wells title.

"When you have one comeback like I'm having you remember all the low things, lower moments that you had during this seven months, doubts and all these things," he said. "The doubt when and where you will be able to be back on a tennis tournament is hard."

Nadal defeated Federer in straight sets in the quarterfinals, then took out Tomas Berdych in two sets in the semis. Against Del Potro, Nadal rolled to an early lead in a match that was marked by several momentum swings.

Nadal served three love games in the third set, capping his last one with a 123-mph ace that gave him a 5-3 lead.

Del Potro came from love-40 down and fought off three match points to hold at 5-4. But Nadal served out the match, dropping just one point in the final game of the 2?-hour match in the desert heat.

"I try to put the match in a little bit slower rhythm and wait for the right moments to go for the point and worked well," he said. "Del Potro is a fantastic player, so it's not easy to change the dynamic of the match like this."

Del Potro saved three break points to lead 1-0 in the third. Nadal held at love, taking three games in a row for a 3-1 lead that he never gave up.

After falling behind 3-0, Del Potro won eight of the next nine games to claim the opening set and take a 2-0 lead in the second.

"I was wrong in strategy for moments, something that for me is not usual, because normally I can have mistakes with the shots but with the tactics and the how I have to manage the points, how I have to play the points, normally I am right," Nadal said.

Del Potro went up 3-1 before Nadal won the final five games and the set 6-3 on a 105-mph ace that capped a love service game.

After Nadal picked himself up, he hugged Del Potro, then trotted behind the baseline to clasp hands with billionaire tournament owner Larry Ellison of Oracle Corp. before falling to his knees near the net and raising his arms in celebration. Nadal playfully took a bite out of the Baccarat crystal trophy.

Del Potro came up short in his bid to beat three Top-10 players in the same tournament for the second time in his career. He defeated No. 3 Andy Murray and No. 1 Novak Djokovic in three sets apiece in becoming the second Argentine since Guillermo Villas in 1977 to reach the final here.

Sharapova dictated from the opening game, when she broke Wozniacki at love with groundstrokes that had the Dane running from side to side. Sharapova faced just two break points on her serve in the nearly 1?-hour match.

"I always felt like I was always a foot ahead, especially with the breaks," she said. "I was able to serve well today, and that helped me."

It was Sharapova's second career title at Indian Wells, where she first won in 2006. Wozniacki won here in 2011. The women met in a final for the first time; their six other matches came in earlier rounds.

The Russian is projected to move one spot in the WTA Tour rankings to No. 2 on Monday, dropping Victoria Azarenka to third. Wozniacki will move up one spot to No. 9.

The victory, worth $1 million, gave Sharapova at least one title for 11 straight years dating to 2003.

Sharapova led 2-1 when Wozniacki brought her coach-dad Piotr out during a break. But she couldn't get untracked, and was broken again in the seventh game. Sharapova fought off two break points to take the first set in 38 minutes.

"She was putting pressure on me from the start. She was serving very well," Wozniacki said. "I felt like everything that she wanted to do today was going in. She was making very few errors, and if she did, then it was really at the times where it didn't really matter."

Sharapova broke to open the second set when Wozniacki double-faulted the game away. She converted her fourth break point on Wozniacki's backhand error to take a 5-3 lead. Sharapova was aggressive in her approach, using her forehand to push Wozniacki around and then coming in on short balls to easily put them away.

Irish Government sells Saint Patrick to reduce national debt

unbelievably, some Irish people still determined to get pissed tonightSt Patrick?s Day celebrations around the world are facing an uncertain future following today?s announcement by the Irish Government that it has sold the popular saint, and his associated festival day, to Germany in a desperate bid to reduce Ireland?s crippling national debt.

Saint Patrick, who has been Ireland?s national saint for over 1500 years and who is believed to be the only Irish cleric in history not to have been implicated in a child sex abuse scandal, was sold at an EU auction last night for the sum of ?7.3 million, according to Taoiseach, Enda Kenny.

?I understand that people might be upset about this, but Saint Patrick has not exactly done a lot of good for us over the years,? said the Taoiseach. ?Okay, so he got rid of the snakes for us, but quite frankly if it was a choice between no snakes or saving the country from being repeatedly invaded and ravaged, having half the population die in a famine and then the nation being left virtually bankrupt from a global financial crisis, then I, for one, would happily be arse-deep in anacondas right now.?

Early reports suggest that Saint Patrick will be relaunched as a new German folk character, ?Der Leprakaun Fuhrer?, a vagabond who once ruled a faraway land which based its entire economy around transactions of magic beans which subsequently disappeared and left the country in economic ruin.

German?minister, Franz Hagen, has told those who have planned St Patrick?s Day events?not to worry. ?St Patrick?s Day, or Heinzellmannchanfest as it will be called from now on, will be going ahead almost as normal this year, except that it will now be used to teach the world about the importance of efficiency and economic responsibility. As such,?there will be no alcohol allowed,? he added.

Following the success of the sale, the Irish Government is considering?selling more of its?national assets to further reduce its debt woes. The Netherlands have already expressed an interest in purchasing some of the Donegal mountains in an effort to make their country less flat and prone to flooding, while North Korea is said?to be interested in?buying County Leitrim to prove to its citizens that there are actually worse places on Earth to live. However, the Irish Government is?still?struggling to find a potential buyer for Bono after the U2 singer failed to reach his reserve price of nearly ?5 at last night?s auction.

and XLoud? what is that, i didn't notice a difference when turned on -_-

that's holding me from buying Sony Smartphones,, but I don't know if Xperia line got better with the xperia Z, it looks like a Nice High -End smartphone..

i don't hate Sony, i have a Sony TV it's awesome ,, Sony makes Awesome, I mean One Of The BEST TV's ans sound systems, but i don't know about smartphones after using the Xperia S

I know your pain, I had a similar experience with mine. I sold it and went back to my OG Note until the S3. I was considering the Xperia Z since I thought it was a good device(it is actually) but with HTC and Sammy new flagships, the Xperia Z now feels so 2012. I think I'll get an HTC this time, for a change.
