I?m laughing at the ref, by the way ? not poor Julien Lecomte, who was going for a header in the box when he took an elbow to the spine and then hit his head in a Belgian amateur league match. The ref, evidently thinking that Lecomte took a dive, gave him a yellow ? his second. Which meant ejection. The only problem was that Lecomte had been knocked unconscious, and had to be carried off on a stretcher. Ever the dutiful gendarme, the ref displayed Lecomte?s red card as he was being inserted into the ambulance.
Diagnosis: medics said the player suffered three compressed and displaced vertebrae in his neck and a serious concussion. I assume the ref thinks he?s faking that, too.
